PD session for profs who’ve never touched AI tools
Helped organize a PD half day this week specifically for faculty who have basically never opened ChatGPT, not out of principle, just genuinely never had a reason to. Bigger turnout than expected, almost forty profs, mostly from departments you’d expect like classics and philosophy but a few surprises too. What worked well was starting with zero assumptions, we had people literally create their first account together as a group instead of assuming everyone already knew the basics. What flopped was trying to cover both how these tools work and how to write an AI policy for your course in the same three hour session, way too much ground, people were fried by hour two and the policy writing portion basically didnt land. If you’ve run something similar for late adopter faculty, what actually worked in terms of format and pacing? Thinking of splitting it into two separate shorter sessions next time instead of cramming it all into one.
