Using ChatGPT to differentiate for IEP students in a practical way

7

As a SERT I’ve been using ChatGPT for a few months now specifically to build differentiated versions of classroom materials for my IEP students and wanted to share what’s actually working before asking for more ideas. My main use case is taking a grade level reading passage a classroom teacher hands me and asking for a rewritten version at a lower lexile level while keeping the same key vocabulary and content focus, so the student is still engaging with the same unit topic as peers just at an accessible reading level. I also use it to generate simplified quiz questions from complex ones, same content, less convoluted phrasing. Takes what used to be twenty minutes of manual rewriting down to about three minutes of prompting and editing. What I haven’t cracked yet is math word problems, the AI tends to change the actual math concept being tested when I ask it to simplify language, not just the reading level. Anyone found a good prompting approach specifically for math differentiation that keeps the underlying skill intact?
