Originality.ai for plagiarism vs their AI detection mode, which is actually useful
been using originality.ai for about two months now and wanted to compare notes with anyone else on the two separate scan modes. the plagiarism scan feels pretty solid to me, catches direct matches to published sources reliably, similar to what i’d expect from turnitin honestly. the ai detection mode is where i keep going back and forth. some weeks it flags things that feel obviously human, my strongest writer got a 61 percent ai score on an essay i watched her draft in class over three days. other weeks it misses stuff that reads very clearly ai generated to my eye. i’m starting to treat the plagiarism scan as reliable evidence and the ai score as more of a soft signal that just tells me to look closer, not something i’d ever cite on its own in a meeting with a student or parent. anyone else running both scans regularly and landing somewhere similar, or is my experience off from what others are seeing this fall.
