Supply teacher had no idea about our AI policy and it was chaos

4

was out sick for two days last week and came back to find out our supply teacher let the entire class use chatgpt openly for an in class essay because nobody told her we don’t allow it during that specific assignment type. half the class now has essays that don’t reflect their actual writing level, which throws off my whole grading for that unit.

trust the technology, same admin that can’t unmute on zoom, is basically the energy of expecting a supply teacher to just intuit a policy nobody wrote down anywhere she could find it. this isn’t really her fault at all honestly, we just don’t have anything in writing for substitutes to reference quickly.

anyone have a simple one page AI policy summary they leave specifically for supply teachers? feels like an obvious gap now that i’m dealing with the aftermath.

we built exactly this last year after almost the same situation happened to one of our teachers. one page, plain language, posted right next to the regular sub day instructions folder. took maybe twenty minutes to write and has saved multiple headaches since. happy to share ours if it helps you build one.

this is such an underrated gap honestly, we talk so much about policy for regular teachers and almost never think about substitutes who walk in cold with zero context.

we built exactly this last year after almost the same situation happened to one of our teachers. one page, plain language, posted right next to the regular sub day instructions folder. took maybe twenty minutes to write and has saved multiple headaches since. happy to share ours if it helps you build one.

this is such an underrated gap honestly, we talk so much about policy for regular teachers and almost never think about substitutes who walk in cold with zero context.

we actually bought some fancy sub day management software two years ago that was supposed to solve stuff like this and it just sits there unused because nobody updates it. a one page paper policy in a folder does more than that thing ever did.
