AI for ESL Students
Generative AI sits in a complicated place for English language learners. On one side, it is the best writing-support tool many ESL students have ever had, capable of explaining unfamiliar grammar patterns and reading vocabulary on demand. On the other, AI detection tools flag ESL writing as AI-generated at rates well above their published false-positive numbers. The threads here document both realities, what teachers in international-student-heavy classrooms are actually doing, and where the equity questions are sharpest.
