Competitive Canadian program admissions and AI screening, what are they using

3

Working with a handful of students applying to competitive programs this cycle, a couple aiming for Waterloo engineering, one for McGill’s undergrad research stream, and one for a UBC program with a supplementary essay component. Parents keep asking me pointed questions about AI screening on the admissions side that I honestly dont have great answers to. Do these programs run applicant essays through detection tools the way we do for coursework? Is there any public information on which universities have adopted this versus which ones havent said anything at all? I know a few American schools have been more vocal about their policies but Canadian institutions seem quieter on this specific topic. Trying to give my students accurate advice rather than vague reassurance, since a couple of them are understandably nervous about writing an authentic essay and then getting flagged incorrectly through no fault of their own. Anyone have solid information here, even anecdotal from a student who got into one of these programs recently and mentioned anything relevant during the process.
