Our board ran a PD day entirely about AI, here’s what happened
Had our first full pd day dedicated entirely to ai this week, whole staff, whole day, no other topics on the agenda. mixed feelings walking away from it. the morning keynote was a consultant who mostly talked in buzzwords about transformation and innovation without a single practical classroom example, felt like a waste of ninety minutes honestly. afternoon breakout sessions were much better, department groups actually workshopped real assignments together and rewrote a few to be more ai resistant, or at least more focused on process over final product. the best session by far was a hands on one where we all tried the same prompt on three different ai tools and compared outputs, opened some eyes among staff who hadnt really used these tools themselves before and were still picturing them as glorified autocomplete. curious how other boards structured theirs, feels like ours was two different pd days awkwardly stitched together, one useless and one genuinely good.
