Our library is running ESL-specific AI writing workshops

Our teacher-librarian started a monthly AI writing workshop specifically for our ESL students this year and I wanted to share because its been going really well. Instead of a general how-to-use-AI-responsibly assembly that goes over most ESL students heads at native speaker speed, she built a smaller group session, maybe 12-15 kids, where they actually open ChatGPT together and talk through what it does well (brainstorming, checking grammar) versus where it hurts their actual language development (letting it write full paragraphs for you). She also brings in translated handouts in the top 3-4 home languages of our school population. Kids seem way more comfortable asking questions in that smaller setting than in the big all-school session where a lot of them just nod along and dont actually absorb anything. We’re only two sessions in but attendance has been strong and a few parents have asked if they can sit in too. Anyone else’s library doing something similar? Would love ideas to bring back to ours.
