Our school’s AI policy doesn’t account for ESL at all
Our new AI policy came out this week, board wide, one size fits all, and there is not a single line in it about ESL learners. Same detection thresholds, same consequences, same everything for a kid who moved here eight months ago as for a kid whos been speaking English since birth. I brought this up at our staff meeting and got a lot of nodding but no actual commitment to revise anything before it takes effect next month. Feels like whoever wrote this policy just never thought about our EAL population at all, which is wild given almost a quarter of our school is currently in some level of English language support. I dont even know what im asking for here honestly, just needed to vent because im the one who has to enforce a policy that i think is going to unfairly hit my most vulnerable students hardest.
