Provincial curriculum documents finally mentioning AI literacy
Was reading through the updated curriculum documents for senior English this week and noticed actual language about AI literacy for the first time, not just a vague digital citizenship mention buried in a general skills section. It talks about students needing to critically evaluate AI generated content, understand basic concepts of how large language models work, and use AI tools transparently when permitted. This is new for us in Alberta, previous versions barely touched on it beyond a line about digital footprint. Curious what other provinces are seeing in their latest documents. Is this showing up as a standalone strand somewhere or folded into existing media literacy expectations? And more importantly, is anyone getting actual training or resources to teach this, or are we expected to figure out how to teach kids about language models with zero support the same way we were expected to figure out remote learning overnight a few years back.
