We ran a parent information night about AI at our school
Organized a parent information evening on AI in education last week, first time our school has done anything like this specifically. Turnout was better than I expected, close to eighty families showed up on a Tuesday night which for our school is a strong number for any evening event. Structured it as a short presentation on how tools like ChatGPT work in plain language, a section on our academic integrity policy and what counts as acceptable use, and then open Q and A. The questions were more thoughtful than I anticipated, several parents asked about how to help with homework without accidentally doing it for their kid using AI themselves, a few asked about detection reliability which I answered honestly, telling them detection tools are imperfect and we rely on a mix of process and conversation more than any single score. One parent asked directly if we were worried AI would replace critical thinking skills long term which sparked the longest discussion of the night. Considering making this an annual thing, maybe even a fall and spring version. Anyone else run something similar and want to compare notes on format or turnout?
